PCM HyCare™ PCP for leaking cheese pumping

A dairy customer asked PCM for a solution to leaking cheese pumps. The cheese is a very viscous cheese and contains large solids and the water settles out over a short period of time.

We offered the customer to make a trial. The purpose was to prove that the PCM HyCare™ pump was capable of pulling a suction lift, as well as the current Progressive Cavity Pump installed, and eliminate the leaking seal issue. PCM provided a service engineer on site to assure the most successful trial.  Progressive cavity pumps already proved to be the best technology, versus twin screw and circumferential piston pump technology, in pulling the viscous cheese from the tanks and through the pipe.

The challenge was to prove that the product could be pumped without damaging the solids, as well as pull a prime on the most viscous product and from the furthest tank.

Ricotta PCM Hycare™The trial was successful:

  • The PCM Hycare™ pump succeed to pull a suction and deal with gap in flow until operator can shovel product to tank outlet.
  • One PCM Hycare™ pulls from 3 tanks, 1 at a time.  The customer was very satisfied and duplicated the installation on 9 rows of 3 tanks.
  • Trial proved successful with plant employees stating that it was hands down the best trial they had.

Other PD pumps trialed were Twin Screw and Circumferential piston. Neither were able to achieve the suction lift needed to pull the very viscous cheese from the tanks.
